Lincoln Academy won its opening match at Wawenock on Aug. 29 over KVAC opponent Maranacook. The Eagles shot a team round of 186 to the Black Bears’ 201 to win 7-2. The KVAC moved to match play scoring this fall, as opposed to the traditional stroke play. The advantage of match play is, a golfer can blow up on a couple of holes and still win their match, as was the case against Maranacook.
Bailey Plourde beat Connor Ireland 5 and 4 (up five holes with four holes to play). Austin Armstrong defeated Matt Gworgy 1-up. Liam Brinkler won 4 and 3 over Jacob Ide. Daniel Hatch topped Mac Rogers 1-up. Basil White lost one down to Spencer Diou-Cas. Oakley Oliver lost 3 and 5 to Dylan Fletch.
Gardiner 7.5 – Lincoln 1.5
The Eagles tied three matches, lost two and forfeited in the sixth slot due to freshman orientation in their 7.5 to 1.5 loss to Gardiner on Tuesday at Wawenock. Plourde (43) tied Brian Dunn. Armstrong lost 3 and 5 to Logan Peacock at number two. Brinkler tied Chad Prince. Hatch lost 1 and 3 to Seth McFarland. Kobe Lincoln tied Brady Smith. Gardiner’s Ben Strout won by forfeit.
