Lincoln Academy softball opened their KVAC season in dramatic fashion on Friday, with a 2-0 win at Belfast. After six scoreless innings, the Lady Eagles got their bats going in the top of the seventh. Jen Genthner beat out an infield error. Margaret Skiff replaced her on the bases, Alyx York drew a walk, and Taylor Poland reached on a fielder’s choice to load up the bases and set up a two run single from Olivia York.
“With Belfast’s infield in, sophomore Olivia York laced a sharp grounder past the second baseman scoring both Skiff and York,” coach Tom Nelson said.
Junior starting Pitcher Abby Farrin pitched a complete game shutout, striking out nine (2B,2H) for the win.
Lincoln had just two other hits in the game, a third inning bunt single to Chloe Hallowell and a fourth inning single to Genthner.
Ashley Littlefield took the loss for Belfast.
“The LA defense was strong all day committing only two errors that ended up being insignificant. Catcher Miranda Achorn had an outstanding game behind the plate managing the game for Farrin,” Nelson said.
