Lincoln Academy’s softball team won two of three games this week to improve their record to 9-2. The Eagles lost to MCI 5-3 on May 14, and beat Leavitt 4-1 and Belfast 4-2.
“Anna Budrow had a great throw to second to throw someone out [in the Belfast game]. Stephanie Oliver catching has made some great plays on bunts. She made three outs on bunts [this week]. Amelia Pennington on the mound has been fielding her position awesome. Soohey at first has been solid all year with no errors,” coach Katie Mainville said of the Eagles’ defensive performance in their 9-2 start.
Belfast scored two runs in the 3rd inning. Lincoln plated four on a two out rally in the home half to win. Katherine Bolster hit a double and scored when Kassie Lincoln reached on an error. Amelia Pennington scored Lincoln with a bloop single up the middle. Laura Soohey hit an RBI single and Anna Budrow an RBI double.
The Eagles held Belfast scoreless over the final four innings to preserve the win.
Hitting for Lincoln were Bolster with a double and single, Budrow a double and Pennington, Soohey and Kiana Santos a single each. Hitting for Belfast were Carr (RBI), Hall and Richards with singles each.
Pennington collected the win (5K,2H,0B), and Newton took the loss.
Hitting for Lincoln were Pennington with a triple, double and single, Soohey two singles, Stephanie Oliver a double and Bolster, Budrow and Osbourne a single each. Hitting for Leavitt were Newton and Richardson with a single each.
Pennington singled and scored when Budrow reached on an error. Oliver drove in Budrow on an error. MCI retook the lead in the bottom of the 4th on an RBI single to Newhouse. The Eagles tied the score in the 5th when Bolster hit a leadoff single, moved over on a Lincoln single and scored on a Pennington double.
The Huskies scored two runs in the bottom of the 5th to win. Glengroves hit an RBI triple and Smedberg an RBI fielder’s choice.
Kennedy collected the win for MCI, and Pennington took the loss for Lincoln (5K,2B,7H).
