Local Swimmers Medal at State Meet

Several Lincoln Academy and Wiscasset swimmers medalled at the State Class B Swim championships held at the University of Maine Orono. The boys’ meet was held on Saturday and the girls’ on Monday. “We did great. It was fantastic,” coach Don Strout said.

Wiscasset boys placed 9th, Lincoln girls placed 13th, and Lincoln boys 16th. The top eight in each event medalled, and 9th through 16th place collected ribbons.

Girls’ resultsThree Lincoln Academy girls’ swim records were broken. Kara Mullin broke two records, the 200 IM in 2:24.96 and the 500 free in 5:46.23. Valeska Vaughn broke the 100 free record in the preliminaries in 59.36.

Lincoln Academy girls placed 7th in the 200 free relay in 1:52.89 with Mullin, Vaughn, Katie Jackson and Olivia DeLisle. The Lady Eagles placed 11th in the 200 medley relay in 2:09.69 with the same four swimmers.

Mullin medalled in the 500 free with a 5th place finish in 5:46.23. Mullin placed 9th in the 200 IM in 2:24.96. Vaughn medalled in two events, taking 7th in the 100 free in 1:01.01 and 8th in the 50 free in 27.48.

Boothbay’s Tiffany Tsang medalled in two events, taking 5th in the 50 free in 26.96 and 5th in the 100 fly in 1:07.5.

Greely won the State Class B title and MDI was second.

Mullin, Vaughn, Jackson and DeLisle have rewritten the LA record books this winter. The group has broken nine out of 11 school records, including all three relays. Mullin holds school records in the 200 free, 200 IM, 500 free, and 100 back, and Vaughn claims records in the 50 free and 100 free.Boys’ resultsTwenty-four Class B teams descended on the University of Maine, Orono on Saturday for the State championship swim meet. Greely beat out MDI for the championship. Wiscasset boys placed 9th with 87 points, and Lincoln Academy 16th with 41 points.

Wiscasset boys placed 8th in the 400 free relay in 3:51.68, 8th in the 200 free relay in 1:41.45 and 15th in the 200 medley relay in 2:11.66. Swimming on Wiscasset relays were Ross Hanley, Brian Campbell, Ryan Hanley, and John McLeod.

Ross Hanley medalled in the 100 butterfly, taking 6th in 59.56. John McLeod medalled in two events, taking 7th in the 50 free in 23.99 and 8th in the 100 fly in 1:00.83. Ryan Hanley placed 14th in the 200 IM in 2:34.19.

The Eagles placed 12th in the 200 free relay in 1:46.15 and 12th in the 200 medley relay in 2:03.84. Swimming on Lincoln’s relays were Griffin Han-Lalime, Peter Huntington, Steven Severance, and Will Hadden.

Will Hadden took 11th in the 50 free in 24.84 and 12th in the 100 free in 55.4. Peter Huntington placed 12th in the 50 free in 24.88. Steven Severance was 12th in the 100 breast in 1:14.8.
