A local bowling team won the first annual Nick DePatsy Memorial Tournament, held at ALLPLaY Family Entertainment Center on Friendship Street in Waldoboro on Saturday. The team wore their retro DePatsy bowling t-shirts, and shot well above their average to win the tournament.
Nine teams from around the state participated in the round robin tournament. The top three teams competed in a roll-off for the championship.
First place captured a $1000 prize, second place $500, and third place $250. The team with the highest string received $250.
Winners were from ALLPLaY II with bowlers Ron Johnson, Karl Pitcher, Arnold Benner, Jason Kaler and team captain Eric Denault.
Second place went to Hobbs Lucky Lanes II with Jamie McClenden, Chris Coolidge, Joe Newbert, Steve Whitten and Mark Smith, and third place to Vacationland with Don Saucier Sr., Bert Dube, Ray Dube, Elmer Tibbets, and Scott Lapiere.
The winners of the $250 prize for high single game with a 626 were Gene Janvrin, Brent Hunt, Shawn Weeks, Dave Ostergard and Walt Bowden.
At the end of the nine team round robin, the second and third place team rolled off to take on the first place team in a two game roll-off for the championship. ALLPLaY II and Hobbs Lucky Lanes II were tied in overall points after the round robin with six wins and two losses.
Total pin fall was used to decide the first place team. ALLPLaY II had two more pin points with a 4483 to edge out Hobbs Lucky Lanes with 4481 for first place.
There was also a tie for third place between Colonial Lanes and Vacationland, with Vacationland having a higher pin total with 4416 by eight pins. Hobbs Lucky Lanes II beat Vacationland in the playoffs to compete in a two game roll-off against ALLPLaY II for the top prize. ALLPLaY II won both roll-off games.
ALLPLaY Family entertainment Center held two 50/50 drawings and raised a total of $186 for the Waldoboro Food Pantry.
Mark Smith of Hobbs Lucky Lanes II had the highest nine game total with 1019. DJ Trask of 1-7-10 had the highest game score with a 164.
DePatsy opened DePatsy Lanes in 1960 and operated until his death in 2005. The facility was closed for a couple of years, before it was refurbished it and opened up as ALLPLaY Family Entertainment Center. The high tech bowling alley has computer controlled scoring and automatic bumpers.
