CLC YMCA gymnast Maddie Russ won three events and all-around honors at the USAG Maine State meet, held at the Alfond Center in Waterville April 10 to 12.
With the win, Russ, who competes in Level 7, 9 to 11 year olds, qualified for the Junior Olympic Level 7 Regional Meet to be held in Rhode Island in May.
Katie Colomb was selected to go to Regionals in Shrewsbury, Mass. in May as part of the Maine Super 7 at the Xcel Platinum level, after placing third all-around at the USAG State meet.
“I am so proud of how our girls competed,” said Coach Janice Cormier-Hay. “The gymnasts in the age groups they competed in were strong and talented and the judging was tough.”
Seven gymnasts from the CLC Y competed at the State USAG meet, which include 100 of the best gymnasts in the state. Results are as follows:
Level 7
Maddy Russ, 11, Damariscotta took first on the vault with a 9.25, first on the balance beam with a personal best 9.5, and first floor exercise with a 9.5. She also placed second on the uneven bars with a 9.1. Her first place all-around score of 37.35 was also a personal best.
Reed Gulden, 11, Walpole, placed third on the vault with a 9.05, (PB), third on balance beam with a 9.3, third in the floor exercise with a 9.325 (PB), and fourth on the balance beam with an 8.1. She was fourth all-around in her age division.
Emma Hall, of Damariscotta, also qualified at Level 7, but was injured and unable to compete.
Xcel Platinum
Katie Colomb placed third on the floor exercise with a 9.05, fourth on vault with an 8.75, fourth on balance beam with an 8.75, and fifth on floor exercise an 8.75. She placed third all around with a personal best all around score of 35.3.
Level 4
Erica Johnson, 10, placed third on the uneven bars with a 9.15, eighth on floor exercise with an 8.55, ninth on balance beam with an 8.65, and 10th on vault with an 8.4.
She placed sixth all around.
Ava Carmolli, placed sixth on the balance beam with an 8.825, seventh on vault with an 8.275, ninth on uneven bars with a 7.9 and floor exercise with an 8.55.
Carmolli placed seventh all around.
Kadence Rogers placed third on the balance beam with a 9.325 (PB), third on uneven bars with a 9.225, sixth on floor exercise with a 9.1 and 11th on the vault with an 8.65. Rogers placed fifth all around with a personal best all around score.
