Large School championships will be held at Boothbay Elementary School. Medomak Valley 7th grade boys and girls advance to the Busline League championships, and Boothbay 8th girls also advance. Medomak girls play Boothbay at 9:30 a.m., Medomak 7 boys play Belfast at 11:15. Boothbay 8 girls play at 1:15.
The Busline League small school championships will be played at Bath Middle School. Nobleboro boys play at 1 p.m.
Boys basketball
Medomak 63 – Boothbay 47
Medomak Middle School 7th grade boys basketball team defeated Boothbay in the Busline League semifinals on Jan. 22 to advance to the championships. Medomak led 14-8 at the quarter, 30-24 at the half and 44-39 at the end of three. Boothbay closed the gap to one point in the third period, before the Riverhawks surged ahead, out scoring Boothbay 19-8 in the final frame to win by 16.
Scoring for Medomak were Jordan Powell 18, Gabe Allaire 18, Duncan Widdecombe 11, Connor Simmons 10, Harley Porter 4 and Michael Simmons 2. Scoring for Boothbay were Hunter Crocker 18, Nick Morley 12, Michael Hallowell 5, Will Perkins 5, Michael Cussammo 4 and Stephen Bennett 3.
Nobleboro 62 – Wiscasset 54
Undefeated Nobleboro held off a late game push from Wiscasset to win 62-54 on Jan 22 in the Busline League semi-finals. The Lions led 20-11 at the quarter break, 38-26 at the half and 52-43 at the end of three. The Warriors pulled within two in the fourth quarter, before Nobleboro rallied to win by eight.
Scoring for Nobleboro were Joel Hatch 24, Ethan Spear 18, Bryce York 16, Mason Keene 2 and Keenan Pitcher 2. Scoring for Wiscasset were Billy Pinkham 21 (4-3’s), Matt Chapman 18, Dylan Orr 11, Noah Haggett 5 and Matt Smith 2.
Lincolnville 58 – Medomak 39
Lincolnville defeated Medomak 8th boys 58-39 on Jan. 22 in the Busline League semifinals. “The Riverhawks came out fighting but could not overcome the pressure defense of Lincolnville,” coach Paul Berube said.
Scoring for Medomak were Nathan Emerson 18, Tristan DeVault 5, Nick Daniel 4, Kevin White 4, Alec Coughlin 2, Alden McLain 2, and Chris Bowman 1. There were no scores available for Lincolnville.
Girls basketball
Boothbay 47 – Medomak 24
Boothbay 8th grade girls defeated Medomak 47-24 in the Busline League semi-finals on Jan. 22.
The Lady Riverhawks stayed with Boothbay early on, before Faith Blethen initiated a few steals to lead Boothbay to a 26-9 lead at the half. The Riverhawks netted 10 points in the final quarter to finish their season on a strong note.
Scoring for Medomak were Aubrey Schaeffer 7 points, Elizabeth Flanagan 6, Hattie Watmough, Addie Jameson, Melayna Benner, Talia Willis, and Ashley Holmes added two each, and Mackenzie Bickmore one. Boothbay was led by Blethen with 24, and Maggie Larson and Helen Hamblett with 8 each.
Woolwich 32 – Nobleboro 21
Woolwich defeated Nobleboro girls 32-21 in the Busline League small division semi-finals on Jan. 22. The Wildcats jumped out to a 12-2 first quarter lead, before the Lions settled down and closed the gap to 20-13 at the half. Woolwich led 24-19 at the end of three. Scoring for Nobleboro were Aubree Cookson 8, Ashlynn Leeman 5, Belle Sawyer 4, Maddi Tilas 2 and Katelin Tozier 2. Scoring for Woolwich were Hannah Card 12, Delaney Young 10, Tea Kepler 6, Rosa Alenza 2, and Sidney McCullen 2.
Medomak 43 – Belfast 40
Medomak 7th grade girls basketball team defeated Troy Howard Middle School of Belfast in overtime 43-40 on Jan. 22 to advance to the Busline League championship game. The Lady Riverhawks led 12-6 at the quarter, 20-10 at the half, before Belfast rallied to tie the game at 27-27 at the end of three. Both teams netted 10 points in the fourth, forcing overtime. Medomak out scored Belfast 5-2 in OT, led by a basket each from Cheyenne Nash and Sadie Cohen and a foul shot from Paige Powell.
Scoring for Medomak were Cohen 18, Kayla Donlin 10, Nash 9, Emily Wotton 2, Hannah Prock 2 and Taylor Post and Russell one each. Scoring for Belfast were Grace Fitzgerald 22, Sydni Moores 6, Hannah Banks 6, Junne McIntire 4 and Kayce Faulkingham 2.
