Medomak Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team defeated Troy Howard 40-37 on a 3-point buzzer beater from Kevin Sincyr to win the Busline League Large School Division championship on Jan. 26 in Waldoboro. Belfast rallied from behind to tie the score on a foul shot from KJ Payson with 1:29 to play. Belfast went into a stall, but turned the ball over on an illegal screen. Medomak played for last shot. The ball was kicked out to Matt Holbrook on the wing, who passed to Syncyr at the top of the key. Sincyr drained the three, and the Riverhawk and fans celebrated a hard fought victory.
Medomak was led by Blake Morrison 15 and Syncyr 1. Belfast was led by Pat McConnell 20 and Liam McConnell 11.
Oceanside 7th girls defeated Medomak 39-17 for the 6-7th Busline League championship. Oceanside was led by Sophie Daggett 13, Caitlyn Lamb 9 and Grace Webber 7. Medomak was led by Eliza Luce 8 and Sara Nelson 6.
Oceanside 7th boys defeated Medomak 45-36 for 6-7th Busline League title. Oceanside was led by Larry Robbins with 13, and Carter Galley 13. Medomak was led by Aaron Reed 13, Zan Nguyen 8 and Sam Moody 7.
