Defending KVAC boys’ cross-country champions, Medomak Valley, were unable to defend their title on Saturday at the 2008 championships at UMA in Augusta. “They ran their hearts out. I can’t ask for anything more. Maranacook ran a very good race. They did what they had to, to win,” coach George Gould said.
The Panthers (91) finished second to Maranacook (77). Maranacook’s top runner Justin Greely placed eighth, but the Black Bears packed it in, placing five scoring runners in the top 22 to win.
Erskine Academy’s Sam Seekins won the individual championship in 17:05. Medomak’s Patrick O’Donnell took second in 17:31. Alex Goldrup also had a top 10 finish, placing seventh in 18:16. “I expected 15 points out of them, and I got eight. They did better than I expected,’ Gould added.
