Medomak Valley boys track team lost their major point scorers to graduation, but returning coach Jake Newcomb is encouraged by his young talent.
“This is somewhat of a rebuilding season for our program as we have graduated some seriously talented athletes the past few seasons, but we have some very talented athletes in the wings who should be very competitive in the coming years, if not this season,” Newcomb said. “This is the hardest working group I have come across in my six years as head coach. JP Lobley, Ethan Morin, Gavin Felch, and Ryan Economy all qualified for championship meets last year or in indoor.”
Seniors on the 2014 track and field roster are: Hunter Baughman (sprints, jumps), Xander Casas (distance), Ryan Economy (sprints), Brandon McCauliffe (sprints, jumps), Ethan Morin (hurdles), Clarence Porter (throws), Ben Rawstron (javelin), and Kenneth Scheimreif (middle distance); juniors include: Trevor DeMaria (middle distance, jumps), Gavin Felch (distance, utility), Joseph P. Lobley (sprints, jumps), Nicholas York (throws); and sophomores include: Daniel Bubar (distance), Andrew Cronk (sprints), Jason Derby (throws), David Herron (sprints, utility), Tim Jerome (sprints, pole vault), Ryan Martin (sprints, jumps), and Deagan Poland (sprints, pole vault).
“Many athletes in the freshmen class were key contributors for last year’s (Medomak Middle School) Busline League Championship team,” Newcomb said.
Nineteen freshmen are out for the Panther track and field team, including Cole Ashmore (sprints, jumps), Kyle Donlin (throws, utility), Deven Dupuis (sprints, jumps), Trent Grover (distance), Francisco Johnson (sprints, jumps), Cameron Leach (distance), Cameron Littlehale (throws), Cameron Martin (throws, jumps), Zidane McMurrin (sprints, jumps), Maty Moore (utility), Gage Ruano (throws, sprints), Chris Schelmerdine (middle distance), Richie Sproul (throws, jumps), and Tyler Stewart (throws).
