Medomak Boys Win CLC Y Undergrad Tourney

Medomak Valley boys’ basketball team won the CLC YMCA Undergrad tournament held on Feb. 22, 23 and 25. The Panthers defeated Lincoln Academy 62-56 in overtime in the championship game. Freshman John Murray was named Player of the Tournament.

Medomak 87 – Boothbay 63Medomak defeated Boothbay 87-63 in the first game of the tournament on Monday. Scoring for Medomak were Isaac Greenrose 20, Isaac Durkee 19, John Murray 12, Jarin Cocco 9, Kyle Durkee 9, Zach Judkins 8, Shane Osier 6 and Robbie Griffin 1. Scoring for Boothbay were Anthony Dimaro 12, Jake Simmons 10, Jordan Caron 10, Kam Markee 8, Ben Dickinson 6, Ryan Murphy 5, Tucker Lewis 5, Robert Morton 5 and Rob Hallinan 2.Lincoln 68 – Wiscasset 37Lincoln topped Wiscasset in game two on Monday. Scoring for Lincoln were Everett Martin 11, Cameron Dodge 10, Dylan Leavitt 10, Kyle Scherer 8, Nic Phinney 6, Merritt Wotton 6, Brandon Reilly 6, Jalen Lincoln 4, Zach Steeves 3 and Steven Quinlan 3. Scoring for Wiscasset were Tyler Sonia 10, Casey Dalton 6, Ashton Benn 6, #22 6, #23 3, Ben Sutter 2, Mason Brewer 2, Caleb Bryant 1 and Dan Murphy 1.Medomak 78 – Wiscasset 45The Panthers defeated Wiscasset in game three of the tourney. Medomak took a 27-19 lead at the quarter and continued to pull away in basketball action on Feb. 23. Scoring for the Panthers were Murray 21, Greenrose 17, I. Durkee 12, Murphy 7, Griffin 6, #31 5, Judkins 4, K. Durkee 4 and Osier 2. Scoring for Wiscasset were Brewer 10, Benn 8, Murphy 6, #22 6, Murphy 6, Sonia 5, Dalton 2, Bryant 2 and #23 2.Lincoln 59 – Boothbay 32The Eagles soared over the Seahawks in game four on Feb. 23. Lincoln took a 16-2 1st quarter lead and continued to pull away over the next three quarters. Scoring for Lincoln were Martin 15, Phinney 11, Dodge 11, Scherer 8, Lincoln 6, and McLain, Wotton, R. Leavitt, Dylan Leavitt and Reilly 2 each. Scoring for Boothbay were Caron 7, J. Simmons 6, Markee 4, R. Hallinan 4, Morton 3 and Dickinson, R. Lewis, Dylan Sprague and DiMaro 2 each.Medomak 62 – Lincoln 56Medomak defeated Lincoln 62-56 in overtime in the championship game. The Panthers jumped out to a 14-5 1st quarter lead, and led 25-15 at the half, before the Eagles lit up the net for 19 3rd quarter points to get back in the game. Phinney hit a big 3-pointer with 2:50 to go in regulation to pull the Eagles within two, and Scherer went inside to tie the score with 2:30 remaining. I. Durkee and Martin traded foul shots. Murray converted off the boards to put the Panthers up by two. Scherer converted a feed from Reilly to tie the score and force overtime.

In overtime, the two squads traded hoops twice, before Medomak scored four straight, on a basket from Greenrose and two foul shots from I. Durkee. Lincoln pulled within two with 38 seconds left on a basket from Lincoln. Greenrose scored on a full court pass from Murray, then Murray and Osier scored two foul shots each to put the game away.

Scoring for Medomak were Greenrose 22, Murray 18, Durkee 11, Judkins 5 and Osier 4. Scoring for Lincoln were Martin 15, Scherer 11, D. Leavitt 9, Reilly 5, R. Leavitt 4, Dodge 3, Phinney 3, Lincoln 2, Zach Steeves 2, and Stephen Quinlan 2.Boothbay 64 – Wiscasset 49Boothbay topped Wiscasset 64-49 in the final game of the Undergrad tournament. The post-game handshake turned ugly when a Boothbay player punched a Wiscasset player, marring an otherwise successful tournament.

Scoring for Boothbay were Simmons 26, Morton 10, Orne 10, Caron 10, Hallinan 2, Lewis 2, Durgan 2 and Sprague 2. Scoring for Wiscasset were Sonia 17, Dalton 9, Benn 6, Bryant 5, Weatherbee 4, Brewer 4, Murphy 2, and Rines 2.
