Medomak Valley girls basketball team skinned the Black Bears in triple overtime on Friday, and crushed the Lions of Belfast 55-25 on Tuesday to improve their record to 9-3. The win over Belfast was the fourth straight for the Panthers.
Medomak jumped out to a 17-7 lead and continued to pull away, leading 31-10 at the half and 43-13 at the end of three. The Panthers bench saw plenty of playing time in the win.
Scoring for Medomak were Hannah Marks 14 (4 3’s), Maggie Cox 11, Hannah Heald 10, Sophie Cohen 6, Gabby DePatsy 4, and Krista Hooper, Paige Mason, Hallie Kunesh, Justice Barrows, and Chelsea Ripley 2 each.
Scoring for Belfast were Cummings 12, Sturgis 6, Grotten 4, Gale 2, and Knowlton 1.
Medomak 63 – Maranacook 57
Medomak Valley girls basketball team clipped the Black Bears of Maranacook 63-57 in triple overtime Friday night in Readfield. Hannah Heald went 4-for-4, Hannah Marks 4-for-5, and Maggie Cox 2-for-2 at the foul line in overtime.
The Bears jumped out to a 19-7 first quarter lead, which left the Panthers scrambling for most of the rest of the game to catch up. Maranacook led 28-16 at the half, and 34-30 at the end of three.
Medomak outscored the Bears 13-9 in the final period to tie the game at 43 at the end of regulation and force overtime. The two squads were tied at 47 at the end of the first overtime and at 53 at the end of the second.
Cox scored six points and Marks and Heald two each in the third overtime. The Panthers were 6-for-6 at the foul line in the third OT with Cox, Marks, and Heald scoring two each.
Scoring for Medomak were Marks 22, Cox 15, Heald 12, Justice Barrows 8, and Sophie Cohen 6. Scoring for Maranacook were Christine Miller 34, Catherine Sanborn 6, Liz D’Angelo 5, Sage Hyland 5, Justine Merrill 4, and Jana Ewell 2.
