Medomak Valley girls basketball team got back on the winning track this week with wins over Winslow and Camden Hills. The Lady Panthers are 7-3.
Medomak 56 – Camden 45
Medomak Valley girls basketball team defeated Camden Hills 56-45 Tuesday night in Rockport. The Lady Panthers jumped out to an early lead and held on to lead 12-6, 26-22, and 39-33 at the quarter breaks.
Medomak generated a balanced offensive attack with three players scoring in double figures. Scoring for the Panthers were Hannah Marks 18, Sophie Cohen 14, Justice Barrows 11, Hannah Heald 9, Maggie Cox 3, and Krista Hooper 1.
Scoring for Camden were Messier 9, Keiran 6, Winklehofer 6, Dostie 6, and Roy, Pease, and Bowman 2 each.
“It was a great team effort. We played well on both ends of the court,” Medomak coach Randy Hooper said.
Gardiner 47 – Medomak 43
The Medomak Valley girls basketball team let the game slip away from them in the fourth quarter to lose 47-43 in Gardiner on Dec. 30, 2014. The Panthers trailed 12-11 at the quarter and 23-18 at the half before outscoring the Tigers 17-10 in the third frame to take the lead.
In the fourth quarter, “they outplayed us and out-coached us,” coach Randy Hooper said after the loss.
Scoring for Medomak were Hannah Marks with a season-high 25 points (tied career high), Hannah Heald 8, Gabby DePatsy 4, Sophie Cohen 4, and Maggie Cox 2. Scoring for Gardiner were Chadwick 19, Kingston 7, Weymouth 5, Granholm 5, Carver 3, Luken 3, and Stevens 2.
Medomak 43 – Winslow 35
Medomak Valley girls basketball team defeated Winslow 43-35 in the Panthers’ den Friday night. Winslow led just once in the game, and that was by four points in the first quarter. Hannah Marks settled a foul shot and soared in a three-pointer to tie the score, and Justice Barrows scored to put Medomak up 10-8 at the quarter break.
The Panthers extended their lead to seven in the second, and led 17-11 at the half. The Black Raiders forced 12 second half turnovers with a feisty press, which kept them within striking distance. Heather Kervin scored three straight points off steals to cut the lead to two in the third. Marks hit two big hoops, including a three to boost the Panthers lead to seven, 26-19 at the end of three.
The Lady Panthers held on to the narrow lead in the fourth, thanks to strong rebounding (14-8 edge) led by Justice Barrows with six boards.
Scoring for Medomak were Marks 20 (3R,2A), Hannah Heald 9 (6R), Barrows 9 (9R,3B), Maggie Cox 3 (2R,2A), and Gabby DePatsy 2. Sophie Cohen had seven rebounds).
Scoring for the Raiders were Kervin 11 (9R,7S), Devin Fitzgibbons 11 (4R), Alyssa Wood 8 (6R), Sarah Wildes 3, and Hannah Doble 2.
