Medomak Valley girls’ soccer team return a strong contingent from last season, that went 13-1 and were KVAC runner-ups to Winslow, and went into the East B tournament seeded third. Medomak defeated Old Town, then lost to Winslow on three sets of penalty kicks.
Medomak has a couple of big shoes to fill, replacing leading scorer Maia Snow, goalkeeper Rachel Keefe and defensive player Rachel Lee.
With only 24 players coming out, including nine freshmen, the Lady Panthers will be able to field a JV team with a lot of swing players. First year coach Joel Lufkin is still hoping to pick up a player or two in the first week of school.
“I’m excited; I think we’re going to have some fun. I am pleased with how they are playing. There are moments where they look pretty good and then there are moments when they do not,” Lufkin said. The Georges Valley ’round robin tournament was cancelled on Saturday. “We lost a lot of opportunity there,” Lufkin added.
“Our goals are to play well and improve. If we do these two things we will have a successful season and the wins and losses will fall into place.
Members of this year’s team include seniors Courtney Leach, Nicole Peterson, Taylor Keefe, Lacy Massengale; juniors Kasey Benner, Roxanne Jelenfy, Ericka Christensen; sophomores Julie Ennamorati, Alanna Vose, Mallory Conary; and, freshmen McKenzie Belcher, Heidi Obuchon, Jessica Prescott, Maria Ennamorati, Emily Leach, Desiree Leary, Danielle Hunt, Amanda Hendrickson Belloquet, and Elise Wallace.
