Fifth ranked Medomak Valley boys’ basketball team upset fourth seed Presque Isle 46-42 Saturday morning in Bangor in the East Class B quarterfinals.
The Panthers advance to the semifinals against top seed and KVAC nemesis Camden Hills. Medomak played the Windjammers tough in two losses during their KVAC season, losing 54-43 and 57-49. The two teams face off on Wed., Feb. 17 at 3:30 p.m. at the Bangor Auditorium.
PI made a run at Medomak in the 4th, but the Panthers held on, sinking six of seven foul shots in the frame to win by four. PI scored a quick two points in the final frame on an inbound ball when Medomak was not even on the court after a time out.
“The official said he warned us, but we didn’t hear it,” coach Nick DePatsy commented. Medomak was then tagged for an intentional foul and Presque Isle converted. “We got lucky and held on,” Depatsy added. “We closed it out well, making six of seven at the foul line.”
