The Medomak Valley junior varsity boys soccer team wrapped up its season with a 10-2-1 record. The team’s two losses were to Camden Hills, 6-0 and 1-0, and their tie was against Erskine Academy, 3-3.
This year’s JV team included three juniors, 10 sophomores, and four freshmen.
“Our defense was the strength of our team,” coach Paul Berube said. “We gave up 10 goals in the first three games we played and four in the remaining 10 games.
“There were times during the season that we struggled possessing the ball and fell into a kick-and-run style of play, but when we used our skills, we controlled the play with our short passing game (and) we were very effective.
“During our practices, we worked to improve our first touch and ball-possession skills. Improvements were definitely made and carried over into game play.”
The Panthers scored 38 goals on the season, along with 18 assists. Scoring leaders were
Kyle Donlin (6 goals, 3 assists), Cameron Leach (6 goals, 1 assist), Adam Eutsler (5 goals, 4 assists), Cale Gee (5 goals), Patrick White (5 goals, 4 assists), Nick Grover (3 goals, 1 assist), Dennis Wescott (2 goals), Isaac Eutsler (1 goal, 1 assist), Tyler Field (1 goal), Ezra Hinkley (1 goal, 1 assist), Taylor McLain (1 goal), Wyatt Post (1 goal), Jensen Willis (1 goal, 1 assist), and Ethan Swan (1 assist).
The Panthers had six shutouts during the season. Playing goalie for most of the games was Cameron Robinson, and he was backed up by Kyle Donlin.
“We gave up 14 goals on the season for a 1.08 goals against average. Playing outstanding defense on our fullback line were: Ethan Swan, Ezra Hinkley, Taylor McLain, Cameron Martin, Isaac Eutsler, and Johnathon Luce,” Berube said.
“I enjoyed coaching this group of players and look forward to working with them in the years to come,” Berube said.
