Medomak Valley split a pair of games this week, beating Belfast 5-1 on Monday, and falling to Maranacook 7-0 on Tuesday in make-up action. The Panthers are 11-4 with one game to play, a make-up match at Rockland on June 3.
Medomak took a 1-0 lead in the 3rd when Mallory Conary walked, stole second and scored on a Tessa Dodge single. The Panthers added four runs in the 4th. Rachel Keefe hit a lead off single, moved over on a Rachel Lee sacrifice and Kasey Benner single and scored on a passed ball. Kayla Severson singled in a run, Conary hit a sacrifice and Vanessa Davis reached on an error to set up a two run single to Vannah.
Belfast spoiled the shutout with a run in the 7th inning. Morgan Mansfield singled and scored on a Brittany Dyer sacrifice.
Hitting for Medomak were Vannah, Keefe, Benner and Kelsi Severson with a single each. Hitting for the Lions were Mansfield, Carrie Caroline and Dyer with a single each. Victoria Overlock took the loss (8K, 2B, 4H).
Vannah took the loss (2H, 5K, 3B) and Kayla Santheson pitched in relief (4K,0B,5H). “Vannah popped something in her shoulder. I’m afraid she may be out for the season,” coach Glenn Barbour said of his senior pitching star on the eve of the East B playoffs.
Hitting for the Black Bears were Heidi Shaw with three singles, Maxwell a triple and Katie Dore, Amanda Laparte and Aly Kennedy a single each.
