Sixth seed Medomak Valley boys basketball team upset third seed Skowhegan 63-31 in a North Class A quarter-final game on Feb. 17 at the Augusta Civic Center.
The two battled even in first half action, The Panthers scored nine straight points late in the second period to take a 26-21 lead at the half. Skowhegan opened the third with a 3-pointer from Cole Pierce and a basket from Cam Barnes to tie the game.
Medomak answered the threat by putting the hammer down defensively, and only allowing one basket from the floor in the final 15 minutes of play. The Panthers finished the third with a 13-3 run to take a 10 point lead at the end of three, 39-29.
Medomak scored 20 straight points in the fourth quarter to put the game away, and did not give up a basket from the floor. Gabe Allaire and Ryan Creamer drew charges in the quarter. The Panthers held an 8-2 advantage on the boards in the final period.
Scoring for Medomak were Brent Stewart 16, Josh Goldrup 13, Creamer 11, Allaire 9, Alec Coughlin 6, Jordan Powell 3, Ethan Reed 3, and Nathan Emerson 2.
Skowhegan was led by Marcus Christopher 13 and Cam Barnes 9.
