Medomak Valley High School cheerleaders nailed their routine at the Western Maine Class B cheering championships, held at the Augusta Civic Center on Saturday. They were rewarded for their stellar performance with a second place finish in West B. They also qualified for the state championships to be held at the Augusta Civic Center on Sat., Feb. 6.
The trip to states will be the first for the Panther cheering squad.
Poland won the West B title with 140 points, Medomak took second with 129.7, beating out the third placed team Leavitt by three points.
“It was about as perfect as it could get. Everybody was healthy. The girls were ready and were mentally prepared. It was as good as it gets,” coach Rachel Coor said. “There were a few things we can clean up for KVAC.” KVAC’s will be held Sat., Jan. 30 in Augusta.
“We’re super, super excited. We were hoping to be in the top six and make states. Second place never felt so good. This is the first time ever that a Medomak team has made the states. Last year we missed it by 3.3 points. It has been our goal all year to make states,” Coor added.
This year is the first time Medomak competed in West Class B. They competed in the East previously, but the MPA moved them, Winslow, and Gardiner to the West this season to even out the numbers in the divisions. “Geographically we were next to move. It was a great switch for us,” Coor said.
