Medomak Valley High School held their winter sports awards ceremony on March 4. Athletic director Matt Lash thanked a long list of people who have assisted him throughout the season. The freshmen girls’ basketball team won the GPA award with a 3.42 average.
Lash presented retiring wrestling coach Philip Genthner with a plaque in appreciation to his more than 20 years of coaching at the junior high and high school level.
Lash recognized ice hockey, indoor track and swimming athletes who compete at Rockland and Camden schools. Ice hockey players included Morganne Price-Prevot, Yannick Price-Prevot, AJ Naum, Kerry Madden, Cal Robbins and Kenny Schiemreif. Ian Rixon was the lone Panther swimmer this season.
Track athletes Julie Ennamorati (KVAC All Conference), Patrick O’Donnell (KVAC Academic), Gwen Moiles (KVAC All Conference), Kiana Ocean (KVAC All Conference), Taylor Keefe (KVAC All Academic and KVAC All Conference), and Megan Wyllie (KVAC All Conference) were recognized.
Ennamorati was undefeated in the KVAC 55 and won the league title in the event. Her best time was 8.14. Ennamorati also competed in the 200 and long jump. Moiles, Ocean, Keefe and Wyllie successfully defended their KVAC 4×800 relay with a repeat championship run, and they placed fourth in the State Class B championships.
Boys’ basketball awards were presented to Alden Ahlholm (KVAC Academic), Alex MacKenzie (MVP, KVAC 1st Team, KVAC Academic, 3 letter plaque, and 7 letter jacket), John Bartlett (Coaches’ Award, KVAC Academic). Jason Vinal (Most Improved), and Caleb Guistra (3 Letter Plaque).
Girls’ basketball awards were presented to manager Kelly Wilcox (KVAC Academic, 3 Letter Plaque), Nicole Peterson (KVAC Academic), Kelsi Severson (KVAC Academic), Lacy Massengale (KVAC Academic, 3 Letter Plaque and 7 letter jacket), Morgan Baum (KVAC Academic), Danielle Dyer (KVAC Academic), Ericka Christensen (Most Improved), Nicole Weaver (Coaches’ Award), and Alanna Vose (MVP, KVAC 2nd Team).
Cheering awards were presented to Kayla Winchenbach (Most Improved), Danica Bryant (MVP, KVAC 1st Team), Jennifer Sykes (Coaches Award, KVAC 1st Team), Taylor Pelkey (KVAC 2nd Team), Nicole Angelico (KVAC 2nd Team), Brittany Alexander (KVAC 2nd Team), and Chelsey Coburn (KVAC 1st Team).
Wrestling awards were presented to Steven Genthner (KVAC 1st Team, Brian Jackson Memorial Award, Most Pins, Most Wins, Most Points, and MVP), Trever Neilson (KVAC 1st Team, Coaches’ Award, East B runner-up), Ben Lufkin (KVAC 2nd Team, KVAC Academic, 3 letter plaque), Stefan Nicholls (Most Improved), and Cheyenne Augustine (3 letter plaque).
