Medomak Middle School Grade 8 boys’ basketball team won the Lincoln Academy Grade 8 invitational tournament on Feb. 26.
Medomak defeated Lincoln 62-25 in the first game of the tournament on Wednesday, then defeated Boothbay 52-37 in the championship game to win the tourney trophy.
Medomak’s John Murray was named MVP of the tournament. Players making the all tourney team were Rockland’s Isaiah Patterson, Lincoln’s Johnathan Riley, Medomak’s Jonathan Henderickson and Boothbay’s Lincoln Simmons.
Rockland won the 3-point competition with Patterson, Cole Chase and Gunnar Cummings competing.
Boothbay 56 – Rockland 38
Boothbay defeated Rockland in game two to advance to the championship round. Scoring for Boothbay were Simmons 13, Ben Dickenson 10, Chad Carroll 6, Dillon Sprague 5, Kameron Markee 4, Jesse Peters 4, and Steven Barter 1.
Scoring for Rockland were Hunter Grindle 13, Branson Philbrook 9, Patterson 8, James Nguyen 7, Gunner Cummings 2, and Cole Chase 2.
Grindle hit a couple of big shots for Rockland and David Gould hit one at the line to give Rockland a four-point lead. Masters hit a big three to make it a one-point game for Lincoln with a minute and a half to go, but the Eagles were unable to retake the lead, falling by three.
Scoring for Lincoln were Riley 17, Matt Buczkowski 12, Masters 8, Matel 6, Tyler James 2, Caleb Farrin 1, and Poland 1.
Scoring for Rockland were Grindle 19, Patterson 10, Cummings 8, Gould 7, Chase 4, Nguyen 4, Tyler Conant 2, and Philbrook 2.
Scoring for Medomak were Murray 18, Henderickson 10, Dow 8, Soper 7, Vannah 3, Cocco 1 (injured), Ripley 1, and Packard 1.
Scoring for Boothbay were Simmons 19, Dimaruo 8, Carrol 7, Peters 4, Dickenson 3, Markee 2, and Barter 1.
