Medomak Valley honored their 1991 State championship team during their final home meet of the season Saturday. Attending were former coach Doug Libby, assistant coach John Thurston, managers Julie Simmons Cowan and Jen Ahlemeyer Lee, and wrestlers Harold Anderson, Gary Beverage, Tony Lee, Stan Rintz and Nathan Miller. Rintz brought Jesse Tucker’s picture and jacket, “so he was there is spirit,” Libby said.
Medomak Athletic director Matt Lash had the state trophy and plaque on display and introduced the group. Superintendent Francis Boynton presented each with a small cup with a wrestling figurine on it to each attending.
The Panthers lost to Morse 36-39 in a close match-up that saw Medomak win four out of six live matches. The Panthers forfeited 30 points to Morse and 42 points to Camden (12-72) and Mt.Valley (12-72).
Before the meet started, Matt Lash presented Steven Genthner with a plaque for earning his 100th career win at Mt.Ararat on Jan. 16. Genthner is the third Medomak wrestler to reach the milestone. Randy Simmons (school record 108) and Glenn Brown also recorded 100 wins. With three meets to go, the KVAC, and Regional and State meets, Genthner with 103 wins is closing in on Simmons’ record.
Ben Lufkin (112) won by forfeit, was pinned by Powers (C) in 1:12 and lost 25-8 to R. Burgess (MV). Cheyenne Augustine (119) pinned Barrett (M) in 1:09, was pinned by C. Bragg (C) in 2:43 and won by pin over N. Burgess (MV) in 2:15. Adam Lynch (135) lost a 6-4 decision to McDougall (M), was pinned by M. Bragg (C) in 51 seconds, was pinned by McGowan (Brunswick) in 45 seconds, and lost 15-11 to Provencher (MV). Taylor Olson (140) pinned Moreau (M) in 1:55, was pinned by Rich (C) in 1:59 and by Thornton (MV) in 5:53. Steven Genthner pinned Loschiavo (M) in 1:01, pinned Harrison (C) in 32 seconds, and pinned Fialho (MV) in 30 seconds. Chris Nason (160) won by forfeit (M). Trever Neilson (171) pinned Marrero (M) in 2:53, pinned Graffam (C) in 35 seconds and lost a 6-4 decision to Carey (MV). Gabe Delano (215) was pinned by Cavanaugh (M) in 1:14, by Chase (C) in 3:56, and by Allen (MV) in 52 seconds.
The Panthers compete in the KVAC championships at Cony High School in Augusta on Sat., Jan. 30, starting at 9:30 a.m.
