Midcoast 14 Babe Ruth All-stars lost all four games they played in the Maine Babe Ruth Tournament in Augusta last weekend. The Local boys were in three of the four games, losing three of them by five runs or less. Coach Brian Second said, they needed “a few timely hits” in the losses. They lost to Tri-County 3-1, Portland 4-2, Augusta 8-3 and South Portland 13-2.
So. Portland 13 – Midcoast 2
South Portland beat Midcoast 13-2 in their third game of the State tourney. Lewis collected the win. Adam Sirois started for midcoast, but left the game with an injury
Midcoast scored both their runs in the fifth inning. Joel Pitcher walked, Nate Coombs singled, and Brad Cournoyer hit a RBI single.
Hitting for Midcoast were Cournoyer, Joey Curtis, Jason Greenleaf, Aidan Schector and Nate Coombs with a single each. Hitting for South Portland werer Lewis with a double and two singles, Lappin a double and single, Poole a triple and Varipatus a single.
Augusta 8 – Midcoast 3
Augusta defeated Midcoast 8-3 in their fourth game of the tournament. Bobby Stolt started for Augusta and Dylan Abbott for Midcoast.
Augusta took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Midcoast tied the game in the home half of the inning when Cournoyer hit a lead off double and scored.
Augusta came back with one run in the third and two in the fourth. Midcoast plated two runs in the bottom of the fourth to pull within one, 4-3. Curtis singled and Greenleaf reached on a fielder’s choice and both scored.
Augusta added two runs in the fifth and two in the seventh to win by three.
Hitting for Augusta were Akira Warren and Kyle Dovin with a triple and single each, Luke Anderson and Logan DuPont two singles each, Riley Geyer a triple and Bobby Stolt a double. Hitting for Midcoast were Cournoyer with a double, and Curtis, Dylan Abbott, Schecter and Obie Miller a single each.
