Midcoast 13 – Scarborough 2
Midcoast 14 Babe Ruth all-stars defeated Scarborough 13-2 in five innings on July 10 in Thomaston in their first game of the playoffs. Midcoast batted around to score nine runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to end the game early by mercy ruling.
Michael Dougherty (2I,0R,1B,1H,1K), Charles Spiegal (2I,2R,2B,3H,0K), and Bradley Cross (1I, 0R,0B,1H,2K) pitched in the win. Ty Turner took the loss for Scarborough (3 1/3I,4K,3B,1HP,0H,3R), and Nick Fiorillo (1K,1B,6H,7R) and Mathew Ricker (1K,1HP) pitched in relief.
After two scoreless innings, Midcoast got on the boards with two runs in the home half of the third. Maguire LeBlanc was hit by a pitch and scored on a passed ball, and Karey Sabanty walked, stole second and scored on a balk.
Midcoast added two runs in the fourth. Spiegal and Andrew Greenleaf walked and both scored on a Bradley Cross single.
Scarborough got two runs back in the top of the fifth. Mathew Ricker walked, Connor Oliver singled, and both scored on a Turner double.
Midcoast got their bats going for nine runs in the bottom of the fifth. LeBlanc singled and scored when Sabanty reached on an error. Gus Hunt reached on an error scoring Sabanty.
Dean Grass hit an RBI bunt single, Basil White an RBI single, and Spiegel a two run double. Greenleaf walked and Ionut Lodge was hit by a pitch. Quincy Perry drove in two runs when he reached on an error, and Tiger Cumming drove in two runs on an error.
Hitting for Midcoast were Spiegal a double, and Grass, White, Cross, and Perry a single each. Hitting for Scarborough were Nick Morton and Turner a double each, and Andy Swanson and Oliver a single each.

Scarborough 14 – Lewiston 7
Scarborough 12 – Midcoast 6
Midcoast lost to Scarborough 12-6 in their second game of the playoffs. Scarborough’s win forced a second game for the Babe Ruth regional championship.
Gus Hunt and Spencer Johndro pitched in the loss. Ty Turner collected the win.
Scarborough batted around in the fourth, scoring five runs to take a 6-4 lead. They added three in the sixth and three in the seventh.
Dean Grass sacrificed in Hunt in the first inning to give Midcoast a lead. Scarborough tied the game in the top of the third. Midcoast came back with two runs in the home half of the inning on an RBI double to Charles Spiegal.
Dougherty singled in the fourth and scored on an error. Midcoast’s rally fell short in the seventh with two runs. Perry singled, Chris Sullivan reached on an error and scored on a wild pitch, and Karey Sabanty hit a single.
Hitting for Midcoast were Spiegal with a double and Sabanty, Hunt, Dougherty, Perry, Maguire LeBlanc, and Andrew Greenleaf a single each. Hitting for Scarborough were Turner with a double and two singles, Cam Seymour a double, and Connor Oliver and Nick Fiorillo a single each.
Midcoast 10 – Scarborough 8
Midcoast defeated Scarborough in the championship game 10-8 to advance to the state tournament. Dougherty and Johndro pitched in the win, and Seymour and Onorato pitched in the loss.
Midcoast jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Sabanty and Hunt singled to set up an RBI error to Grass and RBI double to Spiegal.
They added a run in the second when Hunt reached on a dropped third strike and went on to score on an error. Midcoast made it a 6-0 game in the fourth when Johndro walked and scored on an Andrew Greenleaf sacrifice.
Scarborough scored two runs in the fourth on back-to-back doubles from Turner and Seymour and an RBI single to Larivalle.
Both teams scored a run in the fifth. Grass walked and scored on a Spiegal double for Midcoast. Both teams plated three runs in the sixth. Bradley Cross and Johndro drew walks to set up an RBI single to LeBlanc, an RBI sacrifice to Greenleaf, and an RBI single to Hunt.
Scarborough’s three-run sixth was highlighted by a two-run triple from Miesburger. They added two runs in the sixth on an RBI single to Larivorre and an RBI sacrifice fly to Miesburger.
Hitting for Midcoast were Spiegal with two doubles, Hunt two singles, and Sabanty, Cross, and LeBlanc a single each. Hitting for Scarborough were Seymour with a double and single, Larivorre two singles, Miesburger a triple, and Turner a double.
