Five Medomak Middle School wrestlers placed in the top four at the Pine Tree East wrestling championships, held at Belfast High School on Saturday to qualify for the Pine Tree State championships to be held at Brewer High School on March 27. Cyril Miller won the 145 Regional title. Todd Anderson (117) was East runner-up; Zachary Rideout (124) placed third; and Dustin Upham (155) and Travis Reed (190) placed fourth.
Miller (145) pinned Dawson of Brewer in 20 seconds, then pinned Austin Sprague of Belfast in 1:22 to advance to the finals. Miller pinned Luke Potter of Herman in 54 seconds in the championship round to win the regional title.
Anderson (117) drew a bye in the first round, pinned Jonathan Crocker of Nokomis in 3:54 in the semifinals, then lost to Jonathan Crocker of Nokomis by fall in 3:44 in the championship round for second place.
Rideout (124) pinned Jacob Jordan of Ellsworth in 1:14, lost a 4-1 decision to Mike McFadden of Belfast, pinned Met Carson of Brewer in 15 seconds, then pinned Caleb McFarlin of Nokomis in the consolation finals in 55 seconds for third place.
Upham (155) drew a bye, was pinned by Daniel Weiss of Belfast, then drew a bye to the consolation finals were he was pinned by Reynolds of Cony in 1:56 for fourth place.
Reed (190) pinned Belfast’s Edwin Johnson in 25 seconds, lost to Muir of HAL 7-5, pinned Moore of Nokomis in 38 seconds, then lost a 10-7 decision to Derek Look of Ellsworth in the consolation finals for fourth place
Kyle Donlin (103) lost a 15-1 decision to Jack Weeks of Ellsworth and was pinned by Brooks Bumbalo of Camden in 2:57. Will Greenrose (131) was pinned by Wyatt Parra of HAL in 39 seconds and eliminated by Richards of Nokomis by fall in 36 seconds. Owen Gilbert (138) was pinned by Damien Ball of Belfast in 1:02 and Boris Clark of Bucksport in 57 seconds. Independents wrestling with Medomak, Chace Falherty (96) and Curt Long (138) lost their pigtail matches.
Belfast won the East championship with 148 points, Ellsworth 148, HAL 114,5, Herman 100, Nokomis 96, Bucksport 90.5, Medomak 66, Camden 58, Brewer 41, Cony 40 and Rockland 36.
