Ben Milliken won four events and placed in the top three in all nine of his events at the Winter Combined Swimming Championships and was ranked first in individual rankings for men’s 10 and under with 169 points. Noah Jordan placed 5th overall with 109.5 points.
Jordan medalled in eight events (the top eight) and collected ribbons in two events. Both Wiscasset Community Center Unsinkable swimmers qualified for the 2010 Eastern Zone Swimming Championships, on April 1-3 at the Webster Aquatic Center in Webster, N.Y. Milliken and Jordan compete in the age 10 and under division. The Eastern Zones encompasses swimmers from Virginia to Maine.
Milliken won the 500 free in 6:32, 100 free in 1:05, 50 back 33.94, 200 free in 2:26, 100 back in 1:15 and 50 free in 28.93. He placed 2nd in the 100 IM in 1:15, and 3rd in the 50 fly in 35.95 and 200 IM in 2:48.
Jordan placed 2nd in the 100 breast in 1:28, 3rd in 50 breast in 41.62, 4th in 50 fly in 36.04, 5th 200 IM in 3:01, 6th in 100 IM in 1:23, 8th in 200 free in 2:45, 8th 100 fly in 1:38, 10th 500 free in 7:21, and 11th in 50 free is 33.59.
The WCC Unsinkable boys placed 5th overall in combined age group scores, out of 20 teams at the Maine Winter Combined championships with a score of 868.5. The girls placed 11th out of 20 teams with a score of 1202.5. The top eight finishers received medals, and places 9-16 received ribbons. The Maine championships were hosted by Fairpoint Swimming.
Golden Goggle award winners were Nina Erikson, Nicole Jewett, Miranda McIntire and Olivia Pennington. Jewett won the number one loser award for cutting 76.26 seconds off her combined times.
Numerous WCC records were broken at the Maine Combined Championships. Jordan broke the 50 breast and 100 breast. Milliken broke the 100 free, 200 IM, 100 IM, 200 free, 100 back and 50 free.
Gretchen Konitzky broke the 100 back record; Valeska Vaughn the 200 back; Ross Hanley the 200 Fly; and John McLeod the 200 fly, 100 breast, 100 fly and 200 breast. Seven relay records were also broken, including males 10-U (age 10 and under) 400 (Noah Jordan, Austin Stremple-Ussery, Brandon Goud, Ben Milliken), male 10-U 200 medley (Milliken, Jordan, Jake Stafford, Goud), male 10-U 200 free (Jordan, Goud, Stafford, Milliken), male 11-12 400 free (Max Jordan, Thomas Jarmusz, Colin Viele, Whitman Vaughan), female 13-14 free (Sarah Hanley, Briana Goud, Miranda McIntire, Gretchen Konitzky), and the male senior 200 (Ryan Hanley, John McLeod, Ross Hanley and Peter Huntington).
