Wiscasset Community Center Unsinkable swimmer Ben Milliken, 9, won the 50- backstroke at the Maine Winter Combined Championships and has qualified for the Eastern Zones in the age 10 and under age group. Eastern Zones will be held in Rochester, N.Y. the first week in April. The top two finishers in each event at the Combined Championships qualified for Zones. Milliken will also compete in relays at the Eastern Zones.
Milliken also placed sixth in 200-IM, seventh in 50-butterfly, eighth in 100-fly, and ninth in 500-freestyle and 100-free at the State meet. Milliken is the son of Scott and Judy Milliken of Alna, and is a fourth grade student at Wiscasset Primary School. “I’m really excited. Tim (George) the Lifeguard said it was really fun,” Ben Milliken said.
Other WCC results from the MSI Winter Combined Championships are as follows:
The boys’ 200-free relay placed sixth with Milliken, Brandon Goud, Viele and Jordan, and the 200-medley relay placed fourth with Jordan, Viele, Milliken, and Austin U-Stremple. The girls’ 200-medley relay placed seventh with Nicole Jewett, Samantha Ober, Kate Laemmle, and Hayhlee Craig.
Tim George placed sixth in 100-back, eighth in 50-free, 10th in 200-free, and 11th in 200-free.
The boys’ 400-relay team placed 11th with George, Ross Hanley, Drey Kuhnel and John McLeod swimming a leg, and 200-free relay placed sixth with the same four swimmers.
