Medomak Middle School wrestler Cyril Miller (145) placed 4th at the Pine Tree Wrestling championships, held at Brewer High School on March 27. Five Riverhawk wrestlers qualified for the championships by placing in the top four at the East Regionals on March 20, including Miller, Todd Anderson (117), Zach Rideout (124), Dustin Upham (155), and Travis Reed (190).
Mt. Valley won the Pine Tree championships with 130 points, followed by SUGG 112, Ellsworth 101, Belfast 91, Hermon 71, Dirigo 64, Gardiner 60, HAL 58, Nokomis 47, Monmouth 46, Oak Hill 45, Bath 45, Bucksport 40.5, Molly Ockett 31, Brewer 25, Oxford Hills 20.5, Mt.Ararat 16, Cony 15, Medomak 13, Camden 11, Rockland 9, Brunswick 1.
Miller (145) pinned Brandon Jusseaume (Mt. A) in 3:55 in the quarter-finals, lost a 5-4 decision to Ross Duncan (Gar), and pinned Luke Potter (Her) to advance to the consolation finals. Miller lost a 7-1 decision to Marcques Houston (Mon) in the finals for 4th place.
Anderson (117) was pinned by Jordan Torres (SUGG) in 2:50 and was eliminated by Cory Eaton (Bre) by fall in 1:40.
Zach Rideout (124) beat James Gambino (Mon) by 10-8 decision, lost a tough 6-4 decision to Isaac Young (HAL) in the semifinals. Rideout was eliminated in the consolation semifinals by a 4-0 decision by Jeffrey Abram (Gar).
Dustin Upham (155) lost a 12-0 major decision to Forrest Stearns (OxH), and was eliminated by Nick Benner (Gar) by fall in 57 seconds.
Travis Reed (190) was not able to compete in the tournament for medical reasons.
