The Medomak Valley High School cheerleaders won their fifth consecutive Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B championship at the Augusta Civic Center on Monday, Jan. 21. The Panthers have won seven KVAC titles in the past nine years.
The Panthers scored 78.4 points to beat out second place finisher Leavitt with 60.8. Erskine Academy was third with 59.4, Morse fourth with 59.3, Gardiner fifth with 50.2, Winslow sixth with 46.1, Waterville seventh with with 45.7, Mt.View eighth with 44.3, Lincoln Academy ninth with 42.8, Nokomis 10th with 33.3, and Belfast 11th with 25.8.
Waterville was the Class B winner of the Jamie Beth Shible Award and Messalonskee the Class A winner. The award is given to the most improved team from the previous season.
In KVAC Class A, Lewiston won with 87.3 points, followed by 2. Bangor, 83.2, 3. Oxford Hills, 72.4; 4. Brewer, 71.1; 5. Lawrence, 61.7; 6. Hampden, 61.6; 7. Mt.Ararat, 59.3; 8. Cony, 57.4; 9. Mt.Blue, 50.8; 10. Skowhegan, 42.8; 11. Messalonskee, 40.3; and 13. Edward Little, 36.9.
