Newcastle resident Hannah Sparrell defeated Kira Innocenti to win her mixed martial arts debut by unanimous decision at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston Saturday, Sept. 12.
Sparrell “used effective knee strikes to help build an early lead,” according to the Bangor Daily News. The amateur bout was part of the New England Fights XIX event.
The win felt “amazing,” Sparrell said. “I had so many friends and family members there and I could hear them screaming my name the whole time. I was so happy to win it for them!”
Sparrell does not know for sure when she will fight again. She plans to “keep training hard” and help her teammates at First Class Fitness & MMA in Brunswick prepare for the next New England Fights event, which will take place in Lewiston Nov. 21.
She does not know if she will find an opponent for the Nov. 21 fights, but hopes to return to the cage for the following New England Fights event in February.
