The Nova Scotia Provincial All-star team was headed to Thomas College basketball camp and wanted to pick up a game along the way. Camp coach Bruce Hunt suggested Canada coaches Chris Ross and Augy Jones contact Nick DePatsy, head coach of Medomak Valley High School.
DePatsy threw together a team of mostly JV players, with a couple of varsity players, on July 22 for a friendly game against the All-stars. The Nova Scotia All-stars draw from 11 different schools from all over the Province. Their team is made up of players aged 14 and younger who are entering eighth grade or freshman year of high school.
The All-star team is prepping for the Canada Games (held every four years), to be held in three years, when the All-stars are 17. “We’re trying to develop the team for the 2013 Canada Games. They are the best of their age group from all over the province,” coach Ross said.
DePatsy was impressed with the team, which easily handled his young group.
