Oceanside took two games from Medomak 10&11 Little League baseball all-stars in the District 2 championship series to earn a berth in the State tournament.
Oceanside 15 – Medomak 5
The Medomak 10&11 Little League All-stars lost to the Oceanside 15-5 in game one of the District finals, setting up another game for the championship on Sunday.
Oceanside struck first in the top of the first with a Joe Curtis RBI single to bring in Hunter Moore. Medomak did not stay down long, as they scored three runs in the bottom of the first. Two runs came home by way of an Ethan Reed double. Reed was driven in by an Anthony single.
Oceanside scored six in the second to take a 7-3 lead. Medomak scored one run in both the top of the fourth and fifth innings. Parker Morrison scored on a passed ball in the fourth and Ethan Reed on a passed ball in the fifth.
The score was close going into the bottom of the fifth, with Oceanside holding a slim 7-5 lead, before Oceanside exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the fifth for a mercy ruling walk off win.
Hitting for Medomak were Ethan Parker a double and single, Parker Morrison and Zach Winpenny two singles each, and Garrett Hutchins, Anthony, Adam Berry, and Jake Bickmore a single each. Hitting for Oceanside were Finn Lynch and Hunter Norton three singles each, Logan Putansu, Darik Johnson, and Hunter Norton two each, and Joe Curtis, Tyler Sukeforth, and Zach Upham one each.
Oceanside 10 – Medomak 5
The Oceanside 10-11 All-stars captured the District 2 championship with a 10-5 victory over the Medomak 10-11 All-stars on Sunday in Rockland. Medomak got off to an early lead when Adam Berry knocked in Zach Winpenny in the bottom of the first to put Medomak up 1-0.
Oceanside answered in the top of the second with runs scored by Nathaniel Barnard and Tyler Sukeforth to take the lead. Medomak retook the lead with an Ethan Reed single that brought home Anthony and Zach Winpenny.
Oceanside made a late push to take the championship, by scoring five in the top of the fourth and three in the top of the fifth to take a commanding 10-3 lead.
Medomak made one last effort to come back. Colvin Strandring scored off a Jake Bickmore triple, and Bickmore scored on a passed ball. However, that would be all they could muster as Oceanside took the game.
Hitting for Medomak were Winpenny, Darik Johnson, Addison Mellar, and Reed with two singles each, Jake Bickmore a triple, and Adam Berry, and Colvin Strandring a single each. Hitting for Oceanside were Logan Putansu with four singles, Joe Curtis Hamilton and Tyler Sukeforth a double and single each, and Zack Upham, Hunter Moore, Hunter Norton, and Austin Chilles a single each.
