Oceanside West won the LA Boys Basketball Invitational, held March 3 and 4 at Lincoln Academy in Newcastle. Oceanside also won the three-point competition, with shooters Cooper Wirkala, Alex O’Brien, and Dustin Cote.
Wirkala was named the tournament MVP. Also named to the all tourney team were Oceanside’s Jacob Curtis, Boothbay’s Steve Reny and Hunter Crocker, Medomak’s Nathan Emerson, and Eagles’ Bryce York.
Oceanside 65 – Medomak 47
Oceanside defeated Medomak 65-47 in the first game of the LA Invitational. Scoring for Oceanside were Wirkala 19 (4-3s), Curtis 15, Trevor 10, Amos 8, O’Brien 5, Jack 4, and Cote 2.
Scoring for Medomak were Nathan Emerson 14, Gabe Allaire 12, Chris Bowman 9, Tristan Devault 8, and Ethan Spear and Alec Coughlin 2 each.
Boothbay – Eagles
Boothbay defeated the Eagles in game two. No details were available.
Medomak 56 – Eagles 33
Medomak defeated the Eagles 56-33 in the consolation round. Scoring for Medomak were Emerson 19, Ryan Creamer 12 (4-3s), Bowman 9, Allaire 6, Alden McLain 4, and Coughlin, Devault, and Kevin White 2 each.
Scoring for the Eagles were Zach Farrin 9, Joseph Giberson 6, Bryce York 5, Sullivan Fink 5, Keenan Pitcher 5, and Quincy Perry and Noland Anderson 2 each.
Oceanside 72 – Boothbay 40
Oceanside West defeated Boothbay 72-40 in the championship game. Scoring for Oceanside were Wirkala 18, Curtis 17, Trevor, Amos, Isaiah, Zach, and O’Brien 6, Jack, and Jaden 3.
Scoring for Boothbay were Steve Reny 17, Hunter Crocker 7, Alex Eason 6, Alex Hubbard 4, Nick Morley, Brett Hallowell, and Dwight Lucas 2.
