On Saturday, July 20 (rain date Sunday, July 21) from 9 a.m. to noon, there will be a kayak/canoe trip on the tidal portion of the Pemaquid River to Little Beach at Fish Point with a view of the life there centuries ago. Please arrive at the put in 20 minutes prior.
The paddle is sponsored by the Old Bristol Historical Society and the Pemaquid Watershed Association PWA Paddlers, led by Pemaquid residents Walt and Nancy Johansson.
Stops along the way will include descriptions and old photos plus observations by local residents. Learn who, when and how Native Americans, immigrants and their descendants traveled, worked and fed themselves during the17th to 20th centuries.
Bring a kayak or canoe (with 10-foot bow line) and a personal flotation device or PFD. Children under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
All PWA participants should bring or have on file a standard release form which is available at PWA’s website (http://www.pemaquidwatershed.org/paddlers.html).
Directions: Take Route 130 south 9.6 miles from Damariscotta to Harrington Road (just before Hammond Lumber). Turn right and immediately take first left onto Town Landing Road down to river parking area.
