The Medomak Valley baseball team defeated Morse 7-3 on Monday, April 28 in Bath. The turning point in the game came in the top of the fifth inning when the Panthers rallied to score three runs that expanded their advantage to 5-1.
Panthers pitcher Porter Gahagan won his second game of the season by allowing just one earned run on six hits in seven innings on the mound. Gahagan struck out eight Shipbuilders and walked only one.
Catcher Jaydiin Ruiz (2R, 2RBI, 2SB) hit a pair of doubles to lead the Panthers offense. Other multi-hit batters for Medomak included Kristian Schumann (1R, 1SB) with a double and a single and Wyatt Simmons with a pair of singles.
Also getting hits in the game for the Panthers were Josh Blake (2R, 1RBI) with a double and Gabe Lash, Gahagan (2RBI), and Walker Simmons (1R) with a single each.
Medomak Valley improved to 2-1 on the season while Morse fell to 0-3.
Poland 2 – Medomak 1

Medomak Valley baseball lost a pitchers’ duel 2-1 in Poland on Friday, April 25.
Medomak took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning on an RBI single by Walker Simmons, scoring Gabe Lash.
Poland plated two unearned runs from Alex Maines and Shawn West in the sixth to pull out the win.
Hitting for Medomak were Simmons with two singles, Lash a double, and Josh Blake and Kristian Schumann a single each.
Hitting for Poland were Cade Johnson with two singles, and Maines, West, and Eliot Rioux a single each.
Rioux started (4I, 5H, 1R, 5K, 2B) and Maines closed out the game for the win (3I, 0H, 0R, 1B, 3K).
Medomak 10 – Erskine 0

The Medomak Valley baseball team opened its campaign with a 10-0 shutout win over Erskine on Wednesday, April 23 in Waldoboro.
The game ended early due to the 10-run mercy rule when the Panthers scored their 10th run in the bottom of the sixth inning to walk-off with a dominant victory.
Medomak Valley rallied for six runs in the second inning to break the game open, and then tacked on three runs in the fourth and the clinching run in the sixth.
Porter Gahagan hurled a complete game shutout to earn the victory on the mound for the Panthers. Gahagan struck out nine Eagles while allowing just two hits and three walks.
“We had some pretty good preseason games down south in Myrtle Beach and it carried over into the win over Erskine,” said Panthers head coach Keith Simmons. “We played a pretty good defensive game and offensively batters one through nine contributed offensively in one way or another.”
Josh Blake hit three singles and scored a pair of runs to lead the Panthers offense. Walker Simmons (1R, 1RBI) and Donnie Havener (2R, 1RBI) had two hits apiece, and Jaydiin Ruiz (1RBI), Austin Lash (1R, 2RBI), and Gabe Lash (1R, 2RBI) each had one. Wyatt Simmons and Kristian Schumann each scored one run. Gahagan scored a run and knocked in three with two walks and a sacrifice fly.
“I was pleased with the play of freshman Jaydiin Ruiz in his first varsity game,” Simmons said. “He handled himself well behind the plate as the catcher and swung the bat well. Josh Blake also did really well, with three singles.”
