Medomak Valley’s baseball team notched their first win of the season on Friday, beating Leavitt 7-3. Taylor Williamson collected the win (5I,3H,3K,3B) and Isaac Durkee the save (2I,0R,2H,1B,3K).
Leavitt jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the 2nd. Medomak rallied to tie the score in the bottom of the 3rd. Buddy Simmons and John Bartlett reached on errors, Genthner walked to load up the bases for RBI walks to Isaac Greenrose and Dillon Reed.
Leavitt re-took the lead with a run on errors in the top of the 4th. Medomak responded with two runs in the home half of the inning to take the lead for good. Shane Osier was hit by a pitch, Simmonds sacrificed him over, and Durkee walked to set up an RBI error from Genthner and RBI walk to Greenrose.
The Panthers added three runs in the 5th. Alex Greenrose hit a triple and scored on a Shane Osier single. Simmons reached on an error, Bartlett on a fielder’s choice, and Durkee, Williamson and Genthner hit three straight singles.
Hitting for Medomak were Durkee, Williamson, and S. Osier with two singles each, A. Greenrose a triple and Genthner a single. Hitting for Leavitt were Poulin, Wright, Frost, Cloutier and Thiess a single each.
Medomak spoiled the shutout with a run in the 2nd inning. Alex Greenrose walked, moved over on a John Bartlett single and scored on a Shane Osier single to center field. Steven Genthner had the only other hit for Medomak.
“They are a very good team, I think they are the best team in the league,” coach Richie Oliver commented.
“Genthner had a great game behind the plate, working a lot of balls out of the dirt,” Oliver said.
Medomak jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning. Durkee belted a leadoff homerun. Bartlett reached on an error, Williamson was hit by a pitch and Reed doubled them both home.
Winslow plated six runs in the 1st and two in the 2nd to take an 8-3 lead. Medomak scored two in the 3rd on a Reed double, Greenrose error and S. Osier two run single. Winslow added five runs in the 3rd and one in the 4th and 5th to end the game early.
Hitting for Medomak were Reed with two doubles, Durkee a homerun and Osier and Alex Greenrose a single each. Hitting for Winslow were Phelps with a homerun and single (3RBI), Chadwick a triple and single, Chestoy a double and Prosser a single.
“We walked 12 and had three hit batters. I’ve never seen anything like it,” coach Richie Oliver said of running through five pitchers in the game. Medomak falls to 1-4 with the loss. “Hopefully we’ll turn it around,” Oliver added.
