There were 16 lead changes and nine ties in the first three quarters. The Panthers only connected on eight of 18 foul shots over the first three quarters, but in the crucial fourth quarter, made 12 of 14, led by John Murray (4 of 4), K. Durkee (3 of 4), Isaac Durkee (3 of 4) and Isaac Greenrose (2 of 2).
I. Durkee hit a big 3-pointer at the end of the first quarter to put the Panthers up 15-13 at the break. I. Greenrose broke a 24-24 tie at the end of the second period to give the Panthers a 26-24 lead at the half. I. Greenrose hit a pull-up 3-point jumper under heavy pressure at the third quarter buzzer to snap a tie and give Medomak the lead for good 43-40 at the end of three.
Medomak led the entire fourth quarter, padded by a six-point run. K. Durkee drew a huge charge on Nokomis star Chris Braley with six minutes to play, then converted off the glass at the other end to put Medomak up 47-40. Braley hit a three to cut the lead to four. Murray settled two at the line, K. Durkee one, Murray scored on a K. Durkee feed and I. Durkee scored one at the line to boost the Panthers’ lead to eight.
Drew Wing scored off an Ethan Pearl steal for Nokomis, before K. Durkee scored two at the foul line. Braley then hit back-to-back hoops for Nokomis to cut the lead to four with 53 seconds remaining. Alex Greenrose came up with a huge block on a Braley 3-point attempt with 48 seconds to play.
I.Greenrose and I. Durkee went four for four at the foul line in the final 28 seconds of play to seal the win.
Scoring for Medomak were Murray 18 (17R,2A,2S), I. Durkee 15, I. Greenrose 11 (5A), K. Durkee 5 (6R), Alex Greenrose 5 (3R,2B), and Shane Osier 5 (4R). Scoring for Nokomis were Braley 32 (9R), Wing 9, Ruel Libby 6 (2R,5S), Pearl 2 (5R) and John Adams 2.
“We held them off. Shane Osier came up with two big foul shots. He had a hell of a game,” coach Nick DePatsy said. “They double and triple teamed John Murray. If you told me we could win with Murray scoring only six points, I wouldn’t have believed it,” DePatsy added.
Isaac Durkee received a concussion in the third quarter and unable to finish the game.
Scoring for Medomak were Isaac Greenrose 13, Alex Greenrose 12, Osier 12 (8R), Isaac Durkee 10, Murray 6 (9R), Kyle Durkee 3 (5A), Deering Genthner 2 and Ryan Ripley 2. Scoring for Gardiner were Trahan 19, Palmer 17 (5-3’s), Tolman 6, Allen 5, Connor 3, Smith 3 and Pottle 2.
Medomak was seeded fifth going into the game, but jumped to third in East B with the win over Gardiner.
