The Medomak Valley softball team shut out Lincoln Academy 3-0 on Wednesday, April 30 in Newcastle.
Sidney Nichols tossed her third complete game shutout of the season to earn the win on the mound for Medomak. The Panthers took advantage of Lincoln Academy errors and wild pitches to score all of their runs in the game.
Medomak jumped out to an early lead in the first inning when Peyton Eaton walked, advanced to second on a ground out, stole third, and came how on a wild pitch.
Medomak Valley scored one run in the fourth inning when Kendall Simmons walked, stole second, advanced to third on a single by Grace Havener, and scored on a wild pitch.
The Panthers tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning. Kendall Wyman hit a single and ran all the way to third base on a throwing error before scoring on a wild pitch.
Grace Townsend (2SB) had three hits to lead the Panthers. Kendall Simmons (1R, 2SB) hit a double and Kytana Williamson (3BB, 3SB), Ivy McCollett (1SB), and Wyman (1R, 1SB) each had one single. Peyton Eaton scored a run and had two stolen bases for the Panthers.
The Panthers had a big day on the base paths, stealing 14 bases.
Nichols gave up just three hits and walked only one batter while striking out a dozen Eagles in seven innings in the pitching circle.
Lincoln Academy starting pitcher Olivia Ball pitched three innings, giving up three hits, four walks, and one run while striking out one. Kadence Rogers relieved Ball and pitched the final four innings, surrendering two runs on four hits and six walks while striking out three.
Claire Ward (1SB) hit a double and Ball and Lily Pinkham (1SB) each hit a single to account for the only Lincoln Academy hits off of Nichols.
Medomak Valley moved to 4-0 on the season, while the Eagles dropped to 1-1.
