Panthers Tame Bears and Lions

Medomak 53 – Maranacook 42Medomak trailed 20-14 at the quarter and 32-27 at the half, before pouncing on the Black Bears in the second half. Medomak put Maranacook’s offense into hibernation in the third quarter, holding them to two points, while pumping in 13 to take a 40-34 lead into the final period. Medomak won the final period 13-8 to win 53-42 at Maranacook Friday night.

“We defended really well in the third. We got their big kid Ben Johnson in foul trouble, and we held him and Pat Norwood scoreless in the second half,” coach Nick DePatsy said of the Bears top two scorers. “It was a total team effort. It is a good win for us, it should bump us up to fourth or fifth,” DePatsy added of heal points.

DePatsy said Kevin Fogg and Dan Aubel shot well in first half action, and Alex MacKenzie and Alex Goldrup in the second half. The Panthers made 11 of 15 foul shot attempts.

Scoring for Medomak were Goldrup 14 (8R, five for seven at line), Fogg 10 (5A), MacKenzie 10, Aubel 8, Dale Winchenbach 7 (four for six at line), John Bartlett 2, and Isaac Durkee 2.

Scoring for Maranacook were Norwood 14, Sam Poulin 9, Johnson 7, Mike Allen 4, Jeff Duplisea 3, Devon Gerrity 3, and David Clough 2.Medomak 63 – Belfast 45After a slow start, the Panthers came roaring back for a 63-45 win over Belfast Monday night in Waldoboro. The Lions led 14-9 at the end of the first quarter, before the Panthers went on a 19-8 run in the second period to take a 28-22 lead into the halftime break. Medomak opened the third with an 11-3 run, including six points from Dale Winchenbach, to put the game out of reach for the Lions.

Scoring for Medomak were Alex MacKenzie 17 (9R,2S), Winchenbach 12 (3A,6A), Alex Goldrup 10 (3R,3A,2S), Dan Aubel 9 (8R), Kevin Fogg 7 (4R,4S), Caleb Guistra 7 and Isaac Greenrose 1.

Scoring for Belfast were Jack Davis 11, Jimmy Davis 10, Martens 6, Hughes 6, Pat Lacivita 3, Peters 3, Reed 2, Beal 2, and Bernosky 2.

With the win Medomak improves to 9-4.
