University of Maine at Farmington senior and Medomak Valley High School graduate Lindsay Ranquist scored her 1,000th career point in UMF’s 65-57 loss to Husson University Feb. 18 in conference action in Dearborn Gymnasium.
“Lindsay joined an elite group of UMF women’s basketball players after eclipsing the 1,000-point plateau in our last home game against Husson University,” coach Jamie Beaudoin said. “In her four-year career, she has expanded her game to become a complete offensive player. A three-point shooter, with the ability of finding the smallest space to create her shot in the lane.
“Every game this year, our opponents have put their best perimeter defender on her. Despite this, Lindsay remains one of our top scoring threats. As we wind down our season, we will need Lindsay’s ability to create scoring opportunities to advance in the NAC Tournament.”
“She has taken her game to the next level in her career at UMF. We are very proud of her accomplishment and the distinct honor of becoming the 17th member of the 1,000-point club.”
Ranquist nailed a jumper to pull UMF within four, 59-55, with 2:11 left in the game. She led the Beavers with 14 points. She scored her 1,000th career point with a jump shot early in the second half. Ranquist becomes the 17th UMF women’s basketball player to accomplish the feat.
Ranquist started all 25 games for the Beavers this season. She averaged more than 26 minutes per game. She shot 31.3 percent from the floor, 22 percent from behind the 3-14 point arc, and 73.2 percent from the foul line. In other stats, Ranquist had 112 rebounds, 45 assists, and 20 steals.
Ranquist is one of three Lincoln County basketball players who combined for 20 of UMF’s 34 points in their 52-34 loss to Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday. Ranquist (29 minutes) scored 10 points and had eight rebounds, Meghan Smith, of Boothbay, scored 6 points (24 minutes), and Bridget Humphrey, of Jefferson, scored 4 (11 minutes). Also on the Beavers roster is Alison Crocker, of Boothbay.
UMF finished the season seeded fifth in the North Atlantic Conference. The Beavers will take on Colby Sawyer in the quarterfinals.
