Medomak Valley athletic director Matt Lash announced on Feb. 10 that Richie Oliver has been hired as the varsity baseball coach. Oliver replaces Rodney Genthner, who stepped down last spring.
Oliver has coached JV basketball at Medomak for the past three years. He coached varsity baseball at Rockland District High School for about nine years. “We had decent teams for the first years, then the last three or four we were a playoff team. He resigned from his Rockland post two years ago, so he could watch his son play college ball at St. Joseph’s Colllege.
“I knew I would get back into it sometime. They are a good group of athletes. They’re good kids,” Oliver said of Medomak players.
Oliver helped start the American Legion program in Rockland, and hopes to get more Medomak players involved with summer programs.
