The Lincoln County Fish and Game Association was pleased to have had George Smith, executive director of the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine speak to the members and guests at the last monthly meeting.
Smith spoke about the decrease in the deer population, in which there was more bear tagged up north this year than deer and moose combined. The increase in tagging fees from $1 to $5 and the decrease of 50 tagging stations was an important subject to all the sportsmen attending.
The Dept. of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife’s deficit was discussed at length and noted that 5 percent will be swept from IF&W to the general fund to help balance the budget.
Smith had some positive notes, in 2010 one can buy a spring and fall turkey permit for $20 and youth that purchase a hunting license can turkey hunt for free. To learn more about SAM, please visit their website at www.samcef.org.
