Two and a half weeks after the state wrestling tournament was held at the Augusta Civic Center on Feb. 7, area coaches are still waiting for bracket sheets and results promised to be sent to them.
The Lincoln County News conducted an Internet search of Maine high school 2009 wrestling brackets and was able to locate them at harrysmith.us/mainewrestling/misc-schedule.htm.
Sixteen local wrestlers qualified for the State championships by placing in the top four in Regional competition on Jan. 31.
Lincoln Academy’s Dustin Creamer (215) placed second, Jordan Knott (171), Tucker Phinney (145), Derek Juchnik (135), Brain Stebner (285), Jesse Morkeski (189), Alex Benner (160), and Brenden Mammina (119) placed third, and Dylan York (140), Harley Rose Benner (112) and Ryan Wahle (152) placed fourth at West B Regionals.
Medomak Valley’s Ben Lufkin (112) and Steven Genthner (145) were East B Regional runner-ups, and Cheyenne Augustine (119) placed third.
Boothbay’s Spencer Myshrall (119) and Jake Garrett (152) placed third in West C Regionals.
These 16 wrestlers competed at the State Championships at the Augusta Civic Center on Feb. 7.
Medomak’s Steven Genthner placed third, as did Lincoln’s Derek Juchnik, and Jesse Morkeski (LA) placed fourth in State Class B wrestling.
Local wrestling results in State Class B are as follows:
Ben Lufkin (MV-112) pinned Hlister (OH) in 48 seconds, was pinned by Tomaszewski (We) in 2:51 and was eliminated by Hurtado (Wat) by pin in 5:59. Harley Benner (LA-112) was pinned by Young (Bel) in 11 seconds, and eliminated by Hurtado (Wat) by pin in 2:46.
Cheyenne Augustine (MV-119) lost to Ross (MtV) by 17-1 tech fall, won by pin over Freitag (Yo) in 5:03 and was eliminated by Bragg (CH) by 14-2 decision. Brendan Mammina (LA-119) lost a 9-5 decision to Bragg, beat Green (Car) by 14-12 decision, and was eliminated by Ross by 23-8 tech fall.
Derek Juchnik (LA-135) beat Hodgkins (MDI) by 17-0 tech fall, beat Bacchiocchi (Fry) by 7-1 decision and pinned Dibona (Wel) in 1:33 for third place.
Dylan York (LA-140) was pinned by Simpkins (CH) in 39 seconds, and by Cryer (Wel) in 2:57.
Steven Genthner (MV 145) pinned Tucker Phinney (LA) in 40 seconds, lost to Gauthier (Yo) by 16-1 tech fall, beat Emery (Fry) by 7-3 decision, and beat Carey (Mt.V) by 4-0 decision for third place. Phinney was pinned by Philbrook (Bel) in 2:01 and eliminated.
Ryan Wahle (LA-152) was pinned by Shellabarger (Bel) in 1:52, and eliminated by Hamm (OH) by pin in 4:32.
Alex Benner (LA-160) was pinned by Ripley (Mt.V) in 5:05, won by pin over Libby (Her) in 2:25 and was eliminated by Goewey (MCI) by pin in 4:23.
Jordan Knott (LA-171) was pinned by Clark (Win) in 2:40, and eliminated by Richards (Her) by 12-0 decision.
Jesse Morkeski (LA -189) was pinned by Williams in 4:56, pinned Nightman (MDI) in 2:54, beat Larry (OT) by 8-4 decision and lost a 10-6 decision to Williams (MCI) to take fourth place.
Dustin Creamer (LA-215) was pinned by Sargent (EL) in 3:45, and eliminated by Difazio by a 4-2 decision.
Brian Stebner (LA-285) was pinned by Boyle (Bel) in 1:13, beat Bailey (CH) by pin in 1:24, and was eliminated by Sawin (Fry) by pin in 1:26.
State Class C
Two Boothbay wrestlers that train and compete independently with Lincoln Academy competed in the State Class C championships.
Spencer Myshrall (119) was pinned by Rowley (PenV) in 3:12 and eliminated by McDonald (Matt) in 2:58. Jake Garrett (152) was pinned by Theriault (Ft.K) in 4:28 and eliminated by Philbrook (Pen V) in 3:52.
