Wiscasset Middle High School student Sam Strozier, who wrestles with Morse, placed second in the State Class A wrestling championship on Sat., Feb. 17, in the 182 pound weight division.
Strozier pinned Collin Cyr (Nob) in the quarterfinals in 5:30, then pinned Isaac Plante (San) in 5:12 to advance to the championship match. Strozier lost a 9-3 decision to Zuka Mabior (OxH) to place second.
Erskine Academy senior Michael Sprague, of Jefferson, placed fourth in State Class A wrestling at 126 pounds. Sprague defeated Alex Kirven (San) by 10-1 decision in the quarterfinals, lost a 3-0 decision to Liam Coomey (Mar) in the semi-finals. Sprague dropped down to the consolation bracket, where he beat Jaden Davis (OxH) to advance to the consolation finals. Sprague lost to Qasim Abdullah (Port) by 6-4 decision to take fourth.
