Boothbay Region High School runner Sophia Thayer won the West Class C girls’ championship on Oct. 20 at Twin Brook Recreation in Cumberland. Fog and rain made for a muddy course, but Thayer ran true for the Regional title in a time of 21:12. Thayer beat out nearest competitor Hannah Austin of NYA by 17 seconds.
Boothbay girls placed three runners in the top 15 and placed fourth overall to qualify as a team for the State Class C championships to be held in Belfast on Sat., Oct. 27.
