The First took the victory in the Lincoln Little League Championship game against Colby & Gale, 15-14.
Colby & Gale collected three runs in the first inning with singles by
Katelyn Tozier and Alexa Coffin.
The First scored four runs in the first with singles by Casey Nelson, Grace Houghton, and Chloe Faryna and four more in the second with singles by Nelson and Houghton.
Colby & Gale earned four in the third and three in the fourth. By the end of the inning, The First was leading 12-10 with many hits by both teams. Colby & Gale came back in the fifth to take the lead 14-12 on hits by Maddy York, Katelyn Tozier, and Allison Mank.
The First retaliated and gained five runs in the bottom of the fifth, making the score 17-14. In the top of the sixth, the left fielder and birthday girl, Alice Skiff, made the game-ending catch.
Hitting for The First were Nelson with four singles, Grace Houghton and Shay Clifford with two singles each, Kaylee Poland with a double, and Skiff, Brittney Hartley, Sierra Holstrom, and Faryna with one single each.
Hitting for Colby & Gale were Tozier with four singles, Hayley Phillips and Teagan Gallagher with two singles each, Allison Mank with a single and double, and York, Coffin, and Anna Feltis with a single each.
Pitching for The First was Grace Houghton (6I, 12K, 9B, 13H, 14R). Pitching for Colby & Gale were Hayley Phillips (2I, 0K, 5B, 6H, 8R) and, in relief, Allison Mank (3I, 0K, 4B, 7H, 9R).
