Medomak senior Alanna Vose scored her 1000th career point with 3:22 to play in the 3rd period of the Lady Panthers East B Quarterfinal game with Nokomis.
Vose drove down the left side for a lay-up and coach Hooper immediately called time-out for Vose and her teammates to celebrate the milestone. Vose was unaware she had reached 1000 points until coach Hooper gave her a hug during the time out.
Vose led the Panthers with 24 points in the game.
Medomak has made the playoffs in Bangor the past four years and Vose has been a big part of their success, playing varsity all four years. She finishes her career with 1010 points, and is only the second Lady Panther to score 1000 points.
Vose joins Julie Littlefield (1034) and Josh Nash (1798) in the Panther 1000-point club.
Vose broke several Medomak Valley girls’ basketball records in her four year career, including the most points scored in a season (436), most free throws scored in a game (17), most points scored in a single game (40), most free throws scored in a season (129), most points scored in a tournament game (29), and most three-pointers scored in one season (41).
Vose also tied two Medomak Valley records, including the most three-pointers scored in one game (five), and most three-pointers scored in one quarter (three).
“She has had a great year. They all have, to get to Bangor,” Hooper said. Medomak graduated seven players from last year’s team that lost to Nokomis in the East B Championships.
Hooper said he knew when Vose was in sixth grade that she was a special player.
Vose struggled early on finding the basket in the game against Nokomis against physically punishing defense. “The other kids picked up the slack,” Hooper said. “People don’t realize every team focuses on her. And she still finds a way to get to the rim and score,” Hooper said.
