Waldoboro 9-10 Little League softball all-stars defeated Rockland 9-8 on July 9 in an exciting re-match in Warren. Shelbe Lane captured the win for Waldoboro in a solid outing on the mound ((7K, 5B, 6H).
Waldoboro plated three runs in the top of the 1st inning. Shanae Seacotte singled in Stephanie Hill and Lane doubled in Whitney Dow and Mikayla Brazier. Rockland ran the bases well in early innings, scoring five runs in the 1st to take the lead. Waldoboro tied the score with two runs in the second.
Hill scored on a passed ball and Brazier on a single to Seacotte, after Seacotte was caught in a pickle between first and second base. Rockland retook the lead with two runs in the 2nd inning.
Waldoboro rallied for three runs in the 3rd. Lane singled and scored on a Wheeler single. Sykes reached on a fielder’s choice to set up a two run single to Katie Goldrup.
Waldoboro scored the winning run in the 5th. Sykes singled, stole to third and scored on a Hill single. Rockland pulled within one in the home half of the inning, but were stopped short when Waldoboro catcher Wheeler rifled a throw to Hill at third to pick off Hutchinson trying to steal third.
Hitting for Waldoboro were Lane with a double and two singles (1R), Sykes a triple and single (2R), Hill (2R), Brazier (2R) and Seacotte two hits each and Wheeler (1R) and Goldrup one each. Dow also scored a run for Waldoboro. Hitting for Rockland were Curtis (2R) and Mazarec (1R) with two each, Dugan a double (2R) and Hall a single (2R). McNichols also scored a run for Rockland.
