Waldoboro Recreation Department’s Adult Coed Softball League kicked off its fifth season in scorching temperatures on Aug 16. With over 220 participants on 14 teams, this is the largest coed softball league on the Midcoast.
“This a fun league to participate in,” said Waldoboro Recreation Director Kyle Santheson. “The low-key recreational atmosphere seems to draw more and more players every year.”
The league plays by American Softball Association rules with a few twists. Men must use wooden bats and remain behind markers in the outfield when woman are at bat. The ladies are allowed to bunt, which keeps everyone on their toes.
The average age of the game day lineup must be 33 or greater. 10 players are in the field, three of which must be woman and all players bat.
Teams will play a 13 game schedule followed by a double elimination championship tournament scheduled for the weekend of Oct. 3.
Games will be played at Philbrook Field (behind the old AD Gray School), Waldoboro Little League’s Foster Field, Medomak Middle School and Medomak Valley High School on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. and on Sundays at 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. For a complete schedule, game results and standings, visit www.waldoboromaine.org/adult.html
