The University of Maine at Farmington men’s and women’s golf team recently completed its 2009 season with a third-place finish at the North Atlantic Conference Championships at Penobscot Valley Country Club in Orono on Oct. 12.
Junior Nick Waltz of Damariscotta played in all 10 competitions for the Beavers. Waltz made the All-NAC Second Team at 162 (82-80). He also achieved All-NAC Second Team in 2008. He was also Farmington’s top finisher at Thomas College’s Terrier Open (78, tied for medalist) and teamed with Rich Matthews (Portland, ME) at the Colby Classic (72).
Farmington head coach Bob Timmins was named the NAC Coach of the Year for the third straight season. The Beavers have finished in third place at the NAC Championships each of the last four seasons.
The Beavers’ women’s golf team also played in a pair of events this fall. Women’s golf became a varsity offering at Farmington 2008.
Sophomore Merissa Beaulieu (Monmouth) played in both women’s competitions. Beaulieu was the top finisher for Farmington at the Bowdoin Blast (96).
Junior Reid Bond (Farmington) played in all 10 competitions for the Beavers. Bond finished fifth in the NAC with a two-day total of 158 (80-78) to lead the Beavers and earn All-NAC First Team accolades. Bond was also tied as Farmington’s top finisher at St. Joseph’s College Queenan Memorial (84) and with Rich Matthews (Portland, ME) at the USM Fall Cup (72)
Senior Tricia Camp (Walton, IN) played in both women’s competitions. Camp was the top finisher for Farmington at the UMF Invitational (99).
Freshman Orion Cochrane (Greenville) played in nine competitions for the Beavers. Cochrane tied as Farmington’s top finisher at St. Joseph’s College Queenan Memorial (84).
Sophomore Michael Lawson (Brownville) played in four competitions for the Beavers. Lawson was Farmington’s top finisher at the State of Maine Championships (82-83-165).
Junior Rich Matthews (Portland) played in all 10 competitions for the Beavers. Matthews was Farmington’s top finisher at the UMF Invitational (80), USM Fall Classic (78) and Husson Invitational (77). He also teamed with Reid Bond (Farmington) at the USM Fall Cup (72) and Nick Waltz (Damariscotta) at the Colby Classic (72).
Senior Ryan Michaud (Sabattus) played in one competition for the Beavers. Michaud partnered with Nate Swan (Rumford) at the USM Fall Cup (86).

Sophomore Justin Woodbrey (Raymond) played in five competitions for the Beavers. Woodbrey’s top finish was teaming with Michael Lawson (Brownville) for an 80 at the Colby Classic.
